With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, our volunteers provide men, women and children of all ages and from all walks of life the resources and support they need to be healthy.

The Y is a nonprofit like no other.  Take an active role in strengthening our community.  If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the Volunteer Application and drop it off at the YMCA or email it to membership@peoriaymca.org.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

  1. Arts, Craft, Trade
    • Cyber Seniors – Cyber Seniors’ goal is to engage youth mentors in bridging the technology gap by empowering older adults to use technology to expand their social and physical worlds. Seeking volunteers to make this possible.Fridays, June 2-June 30 from 11:15-Noon
    • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Professionals – We are looking for engineers who specialize in architecture, environment, computers, electric, mechanics, biology, chemicals, and geology. People who would be willing to volunteer their time on Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30-4:30 during the school year, and from 9:30-10:30 over the summer.

    Outdoor and Recreation

    • Tree Identification Sign Post Install- We are seeking to place small signs about the trees on our campus. This would include setting post as well as installing the sign.
    • Parking Lot Pickup – Looking for people willing to volunteer their time once a month to keep the environment at the YMCA clean.
    • Master Gardener – Someone knowledgeable about gardening who would be able to volunteer their time and efforts to help beautify the property at the YMCA. Needing volunteers to carry out numerous gardening duties including planting, mulching, weeding, and raking.

    Age Groups

    • Tot watch – Tot Watch allows children to play in a supervised area while parents workout, swim or enjoy other activities at the YMCA. Needing volunteer supervisors who are passionate about working with kids. Monday-Friday, 8:30am-11:00.
    • Motivational Speakers – Need motivational speakers to come inspire our youth to stay in school, say no to drugs, become leaders, and prepare for life after graduation.
    • Academic Support (Tutoring) – Help middle school students with their homework. Available times: Monday-Friday, 4:00pm-5:30pm.
    • Summer Camp – Volunteers needed to work with our kids during the summer months, doing activities, reading stories, and helping with learning loss.
    • All Pro Dad Leader – All Pro Dad is on a mission to help you love and lead your family well. Be a hero to your kids. All Pro Dad’s Day provides everything you need to run a simple yet powerful monthly program full of fun activities and interactive discussions for dads and their kids. Looking for a Dad who can lead a group of men through the All Pro Dad material over breakfast once a month.
    • Trail Life Leader – Trail Life is a Christian outdoor adventure, character, and leadership program for boys and young men. The YMCA is seeking men who can volunteer their time to provide teaching and leadership for boys and young men.

    Outreach

    • Halloweenza – People who are willing to devote time to setting up a table and handing out snacks to children. The event is October 5, 6, and 7th
    • Trunk or Treat – Trunk-or-treat events bring Halloween to parking lots where kids go from car to car and get candy. Trunk or treat gives children an opportunity to go trick or treating when their neighborhood may not be as safe. Looking for multiple volunteers for different tasks. The YMCA is looking for: people to bring their car and candy for trick or treating, judges for the costume contest (at 6:45pm), people to donate food for the complimentary cookout. The event will run from 6-7:30pm on October 27th.
    • Midwest Food Bank – The Peoria YMCA provides volunteers the last Tuesday of each month, 2-4pm. We welcome volunteers to help!
    • Bible Study/Alpha Leader – Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith. Seeking leaders who are passionate about Christ and are willing to organize and lead discussions.
    • Summer Starter – Volunteers to help set up and run our summer kick-off program on Saturday, May 27th.

    • Financial Peace Leader – Financial Peace is a class that teaches you how to pay off debt, save for the future, and create a budget that works for both you and your spouse. Anyone can lead a Financial Peace University class. If you dedicate 30-45 minutes each week to familiarize yourself with the video and the handbook, you will go in prepared to make a difference each week.

    Sports and Fitness

    • Volleyball Tournament – Looking for volunteers to help with crowd control May 13 and 14th.
    • Swim Meet – Need 15 volunteers. For the swim meet we are looking for people who can be score board keepers and people who can run paperwork during the meet. Swim meets are June 9th, June 21st, June 23rd, June 28th, and July 5th.
    • Yoga Instructor – Someone looking to get exercise while working with children and leading them through yoga exercises. Needed over the summer months.
    • Coaches and Referees for Basketball- We are seeking mature and experience coaches and referees to help us provide a positive experience learning the skill of the game as well as sportsmanship on Saturday Mornings for games and Wednesday evenings for practices.

    Music and Drama

Togetherhood–  “Our Y is running a nationwide program called Togetherhood. It provides Y members with an easy, fun, and rewarding way to volunteer for service projects that strengthen the community where we live. The program is led by a committee of Y members that helps organize and run four service projects a year. We are looking for Y members to join our Service Committee. Folks who are:

  • passionate about the benefits of service and volunteering;
  •  represent the diversity of our community and membership;
  • and are willing and able to be an advocate for the benefits of service with Y members and community partners.

The commitment for the members of this Service Committee will be to

  • attend a minimum number of monthly meetings (time and date TBD) for a one-year term;
  • select and lead, or co-lead, one of four community service projects each year, using the YMCA Togetherhood Toolkit;
  • and invite members, friends, and family from within their social networks
