Pool Opening Delayed

Due to the wet spring weather, the Peoria YMCA’s pool renovation has experienced delays. Despite everyone’s hard work, the pool will be unable to open this weekend, Saturday, May 25.

While there is no snow on the pool, like in the photo, there is, unfortunately, no water either.

“With more rain forecasted over the next several days it is very difficult for us to determine the opening date,” says Andy Thornton, Peoria YMCA CEO.

“Although the pool was to have been open for Memorial Day weekend, a late spring and unusual rainfall amounts have made it difficult for workers to complete the pool renovations. We know our members are eager to jump in and enjoy our beautiful pool and we are working to open as soon as possible. We will do our very best to provide continual updates and alerts to keep our members and the community informed. We appreciate your patience, understanding and eagerness to begin the outdoor swimming season.”

The Family Fun Day, free community event will be postponed until Saturday, June 15, from noon until 2pm.

“Family Fun Day is a great event that engages the entire community,” says Christina Rivera, Director of Member Engagement. “This event will still have free food, bounce house, foam party, games for the entire family and free access to our beautiful pool. The Y invites the Peoria community to join us on Saturday, June 15 for a day of fun, fellowship and family.”
