Teen REACH After School Program 2024-2025
Teen REACH is a program that provides a variety of services to support students and their families. Each day at the Greater Peoria Family YMCA, we will work to provide meaningful youth programming to support young leaders and change makers as they navigate their youth development journey into successful adulthood. Our work seeks to nourish the potential in each teen, and to equip them with the tools and resources they need to thrive.
The YMCA Teen REACH program schedule is structured to follow the Peoria District 150 school year calendar. Admission is rolling & based on program vacancies. We currently pickup from Richwoods High School, Rolling Acres Middle School, and Liberty Leadership.

Join us for the Greater Peoria Family YMCA’s Teen REACH Spring Break Camp, a free and exciting opportunity for teens to stay active and engaged during their school break! The camp runs from March 24th through April 6th, 2025, from 7 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Registration is available online or at the Membership Experience Desk. Participants must bring breakfast and lunch daily.

Lifeguarding Recertification (Blended Learning)
SESSION DATES & TIMES: 06/08/2025 | Sunday | 8:00am-6:00pm An abbreviated Lifeguarding course that reviews course content in addition to practice and testing of skills and emergency team response. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the assigned online portion(s) (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to each instructor-led session. To participate in the recertification course participants must possess a Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid (current certification or certification expired by no more than 30 days). Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid valid for 2 years. THIS IS A BLENDED COURSE. MAY TAKE 7 HOURS TO COMPLETE. Blended training courses take place virtually and in-person. Once you have registered for the course, you will be sent an email from "Salesforce Automation". Successful completion of the online learning is required prior to attending in-person session. |

Stage 3: Water Stamina (3-5yrs)
Preschool Stage 3: Water Stamina helps young swimmers build endurance and independence in the water. Building on skills from Stage 2, children begin swimming short distances on their own while continuing to develop stroke technique and water safety habits. Children will work on: -Swimming 10-15 yards independently -Front and back floats without assistance -Rolling from front to back and back to front -Basic freestyle and backstroke movements -Jumping into deep water and returning to the wall This level focuses on increasing stamina, confidence, and skill while preparing swimmers for longer distances and more advanced strokes. Stage 4: Stroke Introduction (3-5yrs)
Preschool Stage 4 introduces young swimmers to stroke technique and deeper water skills. Children build on their ability to swim independently while learning the basics of front crawl, back crawl, and other foundational strokes. The YMCA Summer Swim Team is a fun and competitive program designed for swimmers of all skill levels, aged 11-17, who are looking to improve their swimming abilities while staying active throughout the summer. Our team will have the opportunity to practice up to 5 days per week focusing on stroke technique, endurance, and race strategy. Each practice will consist of warm-ups, skill drills, endurance training, and team-building exercises. NEW - dryland workout two hours per week on deck and/or in the wellness center (Register separately!). Lifeguarding (Blended Learning)
SESSION DATES & TIMES: 08/15/25 | Friday | 4:00PM - 9:00PM 08/16/25 | Saturday | 9:00AM-6:00PM 08/17/25 | Sunday | 9:00AM-6:00PM The Lifeguarding course provides participants the knowledge and skills to prevent recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in both shallow water (less than 7 feet) and deeper water (7 feet or more) and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. This class is taught in a blended learning format and the assigned online portion(s) (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) must be completed prior to each instructor-led session. Participants who successfully complete this course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding (including deep water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid valid for 2 years. Prerequisites: 1. Minimum age: 15 years; 2. Complete a swim- tread-swim sequence: Jump into the water submerge resurface swim 150 yards (using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both) maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs then swim 50 yards using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both. 3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds by starting in the water swimming 20 yards surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 12 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point holding the object at the surface with both hand exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
