PEORIA (25News Now) – The Greater Peoria Family YMCA has events planned to keep kids busy this summer.
The organization has summer camps and activities that are underway.
Operations Director Trey Chandler says this will be the biggest summer ever for area kids and teens.
“We will have three camps functioning at the same time between all of our locations,” Chandler said.
More than 200 kids will attend these camps, which is an increase from previous years. With this expansion, this means the YMCA hired more people to work them.
Camp Hollow in Peoria allows kids to try different summer hobbies, like swimming, hiking, arts and crafts, and even some character-building activities. YMCA School Age Director Taylor Simpson says this is a good way for kids to stay active and be involved this summer.
“We can provide them with some experience that they have never had before,” Simpson said. “Having the facility that we have, we can kind of put a focus on and getting in touch with nature and different related education.”
